There are 2000 books left. I am contemplating another printing but may wait until Spring as storage is almost as expensive as lost sales. So email your ordeer and get your books now. I've have raised the price to $10.00 per book to accomodate the oil crisis which has driven the cost of ink through the roof.
We just finished a PSA through Fox 5 (WTTG/DC) with Senator Dole and he announced a campaign to raise 10 million dollars on Fox TV in an interview last week. I also put together a new "Knol" on the Memorial. Knol is Google's latest attempt to outdo Wikipedia.
Other than that, the Summer has been very busy and we've had Honor Flights come in almost every Wed/Sat. Senator Dole has shown up despite the heat. Fall is going to be a nice "change of weather" and the DC ground crew lead by Diane Sinclair is looking forward to it.
HONOR FLIGHT
I have been working this Winter to promote the images of the WWII Memorial and the changes it has made to the Mall. I’ve also been taking pictures and working with veterans groups to document their efforts to fly FOR FREE our remaining WWII veterans to the Mall. This effort has gone from 5000 to 10000 WWII vets per year. You can find images of this at the url below. Vets and their families can download the images for free.

Has turned out to be a way to organize my documenting these activities. As a resident and photojournalist in DC (think Eliot Spitzer), it’s been refreshing to watch these groups raise millions of dollars at pancake breakfasts, start a network in twenty-four states, and get the vets here and back with the greatest concern for their comfort and safety. It’s a wonderful story and it’s a pleasure to be documenting it. I have also been working with the White House News Photographers to publicize their efforts and they will be honored at the WHNPA Awards Dinner this year.

I am offering the book to veterans groups at significant discount to help them raise money and as a memento to the vets of their trip. Honor Flight.org is one of the organizations that is currently giving the book to the Veterans they transport to DC. The National Park Service sells the book but not at the WWII Memorial. Eastern has done terrific display work at the FDR and Arlington Cemetery. The Order of the Purple Heart has just begun to distribute the books to Vets at VA centers where they work. It’s worked out as a beautiful and very reasonably priced gift.

SLIDESHOW
I have built a slideshow which allows you to view the book online in a large image format allowng for viewing but not printing. It’s flash based and I am hoping that as search engine results get better, schools will begin to adopt the images.

WWII Memorial: Jewel of the Mall is a 90 page full-color photographic book on the WWII Memorial with an introduction by Senator Robert Dole and photographs by renowned photographer Stephen R. Brown. The photographs are exclusive never-to-be duplicated images as Stephen R. Brown had access to the site and cranes as the Memorial was built. Panoramic scenes of the new face of the Mall comprise seventy-five pages of the book while the other fifteen are a documentary of the creation and installation of the sculpture and Marble ornamentation that is part of this new memorial.
Finally, we can take credit cards and invoice electronically. This enables many of working electronially to more efficiently keep the books.
